A New Beginning: My First Week on the Gap Year Mission Trip
September 8th, 2024
Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been three days since my Gap Year started! It’s been a whirlwind—so much happening, so much to take in… but all of it has been amazing.
Day one was all about airport runs—back and forth with my awesome leader, Jill Johnson, picking up the other girls. It felt like we were on a mission ourselves, but honestly, I loved every second of it.
It’s been such a relief to finally meet my new roommates, my new sisters, face-to-face. After all those Zoom calls, it’s great to actually be here with them in person. I can already see how God has blessed me with the best girls to spend these next nine months with. Their love for God shines through in everything they do, and I feel so grateful to be here with them. I just know we’re going to get along so well!
In the past three days, we’ve all grown so close. There’s been so much laughter and late-night conversations. We seemed to skip right past the awkward stage and dove straight into the fun and silly moments. I’m pretty sure we’re going to have six-pack abs by the end of this trip from all the laughing we’ve done! Whether we’re grocery shopping or making dinner, everything we do seems to be filled with laughter.
I can already see how God has provided for me in so many ways. He brought in all the support I needed just days before the trip, which has definitely eased my anxiety. Now, I can focus more on building my relationship with my new sisters and learning how to be a missionary, sharing the gospel in a way that resonates with each culture. I’m excited to put what I learn into practice. We’ll have the chance to do this by assisting the Cru staff at Lake Nona High School and Lake Howell High School on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It’s going to be a blast!
I’m already so thankful for this journey and can’t wait to see what God has in store next!
Prayer Requests:
-Pray for strength and endurance to handle the physical and emotional challenges of the trip, as well as the ability to stay focused on my goals and responsibilities
-Pray that my team and I will have a smooth and uplifting transition as we leave out family homes and begin this wonderful journey.
- Pray that the hearts of the high schoolers that we encounter in Orlando will be open to the message of Christ and that we will be a channel of God’s love and grace.
